Unnamed Rhythm Game: Devlog

I’ve been messing around with color stuff, and now (not in the extension project) you can set the hex color of each element of the screen for each song. Since I can program my own effects and stuff into each of my songs, I’ve made a slight color shift happen in the Test Song every time you are holding long notes. I’m having a lot of fun with this! Hopefully I’ll be done with this test song soon and I’ll actually give it a name. My plan is to make an easy level, because all the ones I’ve got right now are very difficult.

They are very very difficult, even for someone who does a lot of piano and music in general. (I am now stuck on the old controls )

Yes. That “Test Song” is going to be an easy one, I just have to update the link. You can change your controls in the settings! Press Menu, navigate to the keyboard icon, press A, and then you can use arrow keys to select a key, press Enter, and then click the key you want it to be reassigned to.

Project updated! Added the “Test Song” and the ability to input any hex color value into the song definition to change the colors and stuff.

If you didn’t watch it, the mods played this on stream today! @sarah @richard you can change the key binds of the game in the system menu! Also, Richard, you are probably experiencing a significant audio lag (200+ ms) with the Bluetooth headphones! You can also adjust audio delay in the menu as well

WoofWoof, this is so sick. I have countless hours on Rock Band (and, previously, Guitar Hero), and this is so stinking fun! The tracks are killer, and the notation for the songs is really tough but simultaneously gorgeous. The chord combinations can be wicked and really original. The game felt more natural to use my right hand (even though I’m a right-handed guitar player), and some of the movements felt really natural when changing chords. It felt like an interesting cross between playing chords on a guitar and playing melody on a keyboard (which may be why it felt more natural to use my right hand).

Stunning, WoofWoof! Absolutely stunning.

Can the songs added with the extention have multiple tracks? This is a question my brother wanted to ask but he cant because he’s retired. I also wanted to announce that I will be doing through the fire and flames.

I development log is like a place to keep track of all the things I’ve added / changed. Basically where I put updates about the game as I work on it.

You can use more than one track in a row with no issues, but not more than 1 can be playing at a time. They also must all be played “Until done”. Tell @_Astronomer I said hi! :)
